Mend Collaborative

origins

Mend Collaborative was formed when two people, one who experienced harm and the other who was responsible for causing harm, discovered the power of partnership. Rebecca, a survivor of violence — her beloved sister Wendy was murdered more than thirty years ago — and a long standing advocate in the survivor and restorative justice community, joined with Miguel, formerly incarcerated for violence he committed in his youth, and now a restorative justice practitioner, to co-facilitate a dialogue. They discovered the healing power and potential of grounding our work in a collaborative relationship that mirrors the goals and values of restorative justice and decided to found Mend Collaborative and lead by example as co-directors to support survivors of harm.
